Thought I might share with others the locations that I find are good to get pictures of various ferries from.
As I live in Plymouth for some of the year, this is the only place I have really taken ferry photos from. The Hoe: Apart from some dodgy people, this is a good place to take photos. You have a view looking out to the whole of The Sound, so if you want pictures of ships arriving or departing this is the place to take them. Grand Parade: A sort of street / pedestrian area in front of the hotels. Right next to the ferry port, you can take some particulary good photos of the ferries whilst they are in dock. - The Bow if it's the Pont-Aven, or the Stern if it's the Duc de Normandie.Great Western Road - off here is a sort of private housing estate. If you are cheeky, you can pop in here and take a couple of good pics from the Marina. The ferryport - the entrance to the ferry port is as far as I know open to the public. At the moment there is a lot of building work going on, but there is a good photo oppertunity immediately inside the entrance where you can get a view of the whole of the berth. Hope this is useful to someone... If anyone wants to share any for Portsmouth, Poole or indeed anywhere else, feel free to contribute. Dan. |

[/quote] I'm assuming you mean the rough ground area down towards Trinity Pier! I went down there last weekend, but there are signs up saying no public access. Never seems to be anyone around, though! ![]() I've always gone down onto the pedestrian area on Grand Parade. As you say Dan, you can get shots of the ships in berth, but also of them sailing in and out, as they tend to be side on right in front of you. Best place in Portsmouth (in my opinion) is from the Round Tower. You can get some excellent shots of the ships sailing in and out of the harbour from there. I don't know if you can get pics closer to the port, but maybe some of our Portsmouth clan will know more! ;D |
