Default A Day in Ouistreham

On a nice summers day there are few better places to spend a few hours than Ouistreham. The beach at Riva Bella is stunning and it is an easy walk along to Luc for a coffee and back. A walk down the canal to Pegasus Bridge and the museum is well worthwhile on the way back diverting into the old part of Ouistreham to look at the Church and Tithe Barn. There are a couple of intersting museums in Riva Bella too... In Riva Bells there are restaurants for all tastes an pockets an excellent Shoppi and several superb bakers. We use the Rialto Italian where the pizzas are excellent. It is also possible for fast walkers to do a quick shop and back to the terminal in the layover time.

Millsy, any idea roughly how long a walk to Pegasus Bridge would take? Is the original still kept nearby?

Just looked at the pix and first taken at start of canal past fishing port at 08:03 and Pegasus Bridge cafe @ 09:24. Add 10 mins for walk from terminal to Fish market and that comes to 1h:30m - including brief diversion into Benouville. We are fast walkers I should think the average walker would do it in 2 easily. I think that's about right as I recall we were back in Riva Bella after visiting the old town in time for a lunchtime drink

If you have a full 'day' in the area and a car then either Bayeux or the D Day beaches are a must. The American Military Cemetery at Omaha Beach is very poignant and Arromanches with the remains of the Mulberry harbour is a good stop off for a couple of hours or so. The coast road west is a pleasant drive although a bit slow at the Ouistreham end due to traffic calming and one way systems.

And if you're going to Omaha Beach then nearby Port-en-Bessin is well worth a visit, with its turning bridge and quayside cafés.
